"The Surplus" is the long-awaited first release by Wilson Twice.
A surprising blend of dark electronic environments and tropical raw street beats, the collection provides an initial glimpse into a world of blurred samples, obscure vocals and menacing visuals.
Not much is known about the elusive Mr. Twice. Briefly mentioned in a couple of independent releases in Brussels and Amsterdam, later rumored to have a destabilizing role in São Paulo's Paloma district and its deep funk landscape. He now appears to be streaming from Lisbon's sprawling and chaotic beat scene.
The sound is an unflinching mix of cultures, the language is unapologetic and plural. Twice appears to shift at will, and often quite randomly, from the street corner perspective to the polished and bougie behind-the-mainstream-window takedown.
"The Surplus", with its calculated sound and oblique references to accelerationist literature, seems to be the opening salvo in Wilson Twice's asymmetrical sound warfare. Keep an ear out for what's coming next.
